A promotion can bring more visitors to an online store, but it also sends more people through every weak point at the same time.
Before publishing ads, creator links or WhatsApp messages, complete a short checkout test on the phones and networks your customers actually use.
Check the final price, mobile form, payment response and delivery promise before launching an ecommerce campaign. Complete at least one full test order and confirm that the customer and operations team receive the right information.
1. Check the price from product page to payment
Follow the complete journey and record what the customer sees at each step. Confirm product price, quantity, discount, tax, shipping and final payable total.
Test valid and invalid coupon codes. If a minimum order or category rule applies, explain it where the customer enters the code. A vague “coupon failed” message creates unnecessary doubt.
2. Complete the form on a real phone
Do not rely only on a desktop browser resized to a narrow width. Check the flow on at least one Android phone and one iPhone when possible.
Look for:
- Fields hidden by the keyboard
- Tiny controls or unclear labels
- Address fields that reject valid formats
- Error messages that do not identify the problem
- Buttons that move or become disabled without explanation
- Unexpected account-creation requirements
Keyboard-only and screen-reader checks can also reveal barriers that affect many customers.
3. Test payment success, failure and return paths
A successful payment is only one outcome. Test what happens when the payment is cancelled, fails or remains pending.
The customer should know whether an order was created and what to do next. The store team should be able to match the payment record with the order. Avoid allowing repeated clicks to create duplicate orders.
For gateways such as Razorpay or PhonePe, check the return to the store, server notification, order status and customer message as one connected process.
4. Confirm delivery expectations
Show delivery areas, charges, estimated timing and important exclusions before the final payment action. Test different postcodes, cart values and product combinations.
If the promotion may increase volume, confirm inventory, dispatch capacity and customer-support responses. A fast checkout cannot repair an unrealistic delivery promise.
Complete one end-to-end order
Place a controlled order and verify:
- The customer confirmation page
- Email, SMS or WhatsApp notification where configured
- Payment record
- Order administration
- Inventory update
- Shipping or fulfilment handoff
- Analytics and campaign attribution
- Cancellation or refund path
Save the result as a repeatable pre-campaign checklist. A ten-minute test can protect a much larger campaign investment.
